Thanksgiving list

T. and I had some time alone today. While she colored, I decided to work on my list of food for Thanksgiving. I got two items on the list and T. wanted to do it. I think she did a great job.

Potatoes, Beans, Cranberries, Mac + Cheese, Corn, Grapes

Disney again (2008)

How did we happen to be in Disney for the second time in one year...??? Because we have grandchildren. May 2008...with DJr, C. and V.

At my son's insistence, we arrived at Magic Kingdom one hour before it even opened. We watched Mickey arrive on the train. That was the start of a long....long magical day. We had lunch with all the Princesses; Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Belle... The little girls had smiles on their faces, stars in their eyes....but little food in their bellies. C. tolerated the Princesses, but his eyes lit up when we rode the raft to Tom Sawyer's island. Oh my, he ran from area to area looking out the windows and shooting the fake guns. He said, "This is the coolest thing I've ever seen." It was so fun to see him so excited.

Rides, food, walking, sights everywhere.... And at the end of the day, as only Disney can do it.... FIREWORKS. V. was on her Daddy's shoulders watching and had the dreamiest look on her face. Her eyes glistened with each new firework. I couldn't stop taking pictures of her.... she was in her own world .... Disney Magic, DJr calls it. C....how can you sleep through this beautiful and NOISY show???? It was a long magical day. I am so grateful to be able to enjoy time with my family.

Thank you Lord.

The Little Red Car

C. was almost two. We were babysitting him for the day. I can still remember that day. We played with the hose, played in Poppy's truck, took a walk. The walk is when we discovered the red car. C. pointed and was very excited at something he saw. I followed him to the red car that was barely visible in my neighbors yard among a pile of wood. The neighbors son was obviously not using this car any more, so we knocked on the door and asked if we could borrow it. We were told to keep it. What a treasure. C. played with it for the rest of the day. As he got older, I would "send him to the store for sugar, coffee...." in the little red car. It kept him busy for hours.

Then K. came along - she enjoyed it too.

Her favorite thing was opening and shutting the door and getting in and out.

Now number three.... V.

Of course she loved the car too as did T. (number 4)

Last month D. played with the car all afternoon.

Wow. A little walk on a fall day with C., a generous neighbor.... a pile of memories with all the grandchildren and the little red car.

Singing Hymns

I thought they were asleep, but I heard their voices in the monitor. I went upstairs and reminded K. and T. that when Mom and Dad arrived home they would check in on them. Back downstairs.... in the monitor I hear quiet crying.... louder crying... very loud crying.

Upstairs again, I try to convince them that everything is fine... talking is not getting me anywhere.... Hmmm.... "Jesus Loves Me this I know...." When I finished that song they were quiet, still awake but quiet. So I sang more.... "Jesus, Jesus, Jesus in the morning, Jesus in the noon time.....Jesus, Jesus, Jesus when the sun goes down."

They are still awake, but relaxing.... I continued. "Great is thy faithfulness, Oh God my Father. There is no shadow of turning with Thee. Thou changest not thy compassion it fails not, as thou has been thou forever will be." One more ...."Then sings my soul, My Saviour God to thee.... How Great Thou Art, How Great Thou Art".

I love the old hymns. Thank you Lord for the opportunity to sing the girls to sleep with wonderful hymns that tell of your greatness. They are asleep and I enjoyed singing to them....worshipping.

C. and the Easter 2007 picture

Last year C. was here the week before Easter and we were coloring pictures related to Easter from coloring pages that we found on-line. One of them was in the shape of an egg and inside there were three crosses. He asked me about the other two crosses that were on each side of Jesus' cross. I told him about the two thieves; they hung with ropes holding them onto the cross, but Jesus was nailed to the cross. He drew ropes on two of the crosses where the men's arms would have hung and on Jesus' cross he drew black dots where the nails would have been. While he colored, I told him that although Jesus died, He didn't stay dead; He rose again and that's what we celebrate on Easter. C. asked me if people saw Jesus after He rose and I shared the story of "Doubting Thomas". Jesus visited the disciples but Thomas was not there. Thomas did not believe his friends when they said they had seen Jesus. He didn't believe until Jesus appeared to the disciples again and he saw and touched the nail prints in His hands. I told C. that the Bible says, "Blessed are they that believe even though they have not seen" C. (whose eyes were as big as saucers by that time) said "I BELIEVE, I BELIEVE." I hugged him and said "I know you do and I am so happy."

Jesus wants us to come as a child. Thank you Lord for that special time with my grandson. What a wonderful Easter memory.

Of course, I still have that picture.

New Housecoats

My daughter and her family are living at my house while their house is on the market. For some reason they think they can't keep it clean enough to show at a moment's notice with a 5, 3, and 1 year old. So, my hubby and I get to enjoy time with our grandchildren daily for a little while.

Our house is cold. We like it that way. In the morning K (5) and T (3) come down and wrap in blankets because it is so cold. I come down in my fleece housecoat and am very warm. So Saturday, I told the girls we would go to Target and I would buy them a housecoat so they would be warm like me. First thing...they both laughed and said "housecoat...hahaha, you don't wear a coat in the house". Oh sorry, I mean bathrobe. That's what their mother calls it. (She puts hers on after a bath, I wear mine in the morning when I come down to my cold kitchen-hence the difference in terms) After breakfast we went to Target where bathrobes are apparently seasonal; so there was none.

Today we went to the mall. M. needed to go to Nordstrom for something that only they sell. While she was busy searching and buying, I decided that I would help by keeping the girls busy. "Let's go to the kid's section and see if they have bathrobes". Oh my...they did. They were soft and warm and beautiful girl colors. So, each of them walked out of Nordstrom with a new bathrobe in their own bag. They carried them all through the mall and when we were ready to leave, they put them on instead of their coats. We walked through the last store with the beautiful new bathrobes on. Other women smiled ....commented on how cute they looked - so Eastery...purple and teal.

What a day....the beautiful, soft robes are in bed with two sleepy little girls right now....ready to put on first thing in the morning.
